I'd rather have an average, MOT'd Stag.
At least i can thrash it and not be too concerned about breaking it, because it cost me so much.
I hate concours cars, a car is meant to be driven, not as a decoration.
With that car, you're buying a brand new car, there is nothing left of the cars history or it's own unique character.

I notice in one of the picture, of the stag, that he has left the battery in the engine compartmant, so when it needs replacing it's an engine
out job, this may keep it as original, but the best mod on a stag was to stick the battery in the boot. IMHO Ray
To make a car go faster, just add lightness. Colin Chapman - OR - fit a bigger engine. Chippy

I saw an Orange Stag today and It reminded me I want one.
My dad always says with a Stag you want one thats had an engine swap to either a Rover V8 or a Yankey engine, though he's never owned one.

Nice.
On the subject of Triumphs, was the TR5 a four seater?
Or a 2+2.
Some of the photos on 'tinterweb show it as a 2 seater and some show a pair of smallish seats behind.
Just thinking out loud, I think it would make a good basis for a replica, if it were a 4 seater.
Spaceframe chassis, free engine choice, fibreglass body, using original chrome / windscreens / windows / roof etc.

Those picture look very similar to a blue one i saw last year. Could be the same guy rebuilding another car though.
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

No!
The TR4, 4a and 5 are all essentially the same layout, and are a 2 + 2. Realistically you have to be either very young or have no legs to get in the
back of one... oh and if the roof is up have no head either...

Hi
I'd much rather have the time and facility to do one for myself - surely the 'all my own work' smuggness / achievment factor is a
major plus point in owning such a car, (particularly for the ' I'm prepared to have a go' type of persons on this site).
Must admit the Stag has always been on my list of cars I'd like to own.
