Fatal Accidents...

Of late I've had a couple of emails from loose associates showing photo's of poor souls who've been mashed up in car accidents.

There's normally a line in the email header declaring it as being a 'speed warning'.

Does anyone genuinely look upon these emails as being worthwhile, or are they just sent under an educational guise to share the gore!

I always reply to the sender with a 'thanks', but 'no more please' message' as whilst I like to give the benefit of the doubt, I personally think they are an awful affront to the families of the people who have been killed and should never have surfaced!

Thankfully in the UK (so far) when something like this happens then people muck in, or get out of the way... it seems in many countries that the first thing they do is get out their mobile phones and start taking pictures or filming!

I've even seen a couple of video clips where the victim is very obviously fatally wounded, but is still alive and waiting to die. Yes, the sight is terrible, but comfort them FFS... don't stand over them filming their last breath!

Sounds nasty!

I've not received any of these mails so have no basis to understand the level of 'gore'!

I agree with your sentiments concerning the families and dying breaths etc.

I was one of the only people at the scene of an accident, the chap who had driven off the road stayed alive for about 3 mins after I had climbed down the embankment to try and help him..... a lot of things went through my mind.... but not once did I think about pulling out my camera to film the chap.... I just dont get the mentaility atall......

I couldnt get into the car to try and help the guy because of the way his car was wedged... he died hanging upsidedown by his seatbelt. My voice and that of terry wogan on the radio where the last he heard!

I couldnt agree more Scootz.

I hate stuff like that - people have no dignity or respect for life. People who record stuff like that don't deserve the lable HUMAN - because there is no humanity left in them.

How does that fit with the PC world we live in? I'm sure there are plenty of law cases to be had if you were the family of the unfortunate soul.

Isn't it illegal to film someone die? Yeah if I see a large accident I must say my first thought is "Youtube!"

Potentially, you could be prosecuted under the health and safety at work ETC act, regardless of whether you are at work or not.

If you have the power to prevent an accident or injury, then you are legally obliged under "Duty of Care" to exercise the ability "Where reasonably practicable". Filming as an alternative is negligence.

It's disgusting but there is very little you can do about it unless you happen to be at the accident (In which case it's your duty to do something about it after that of helping anyone who's injured).

I've thankfully never been in that sort of situation, but if I was, I'd not want to do something like that. Help out or move on.

Its nothing new. People have been doing this in warzones for at least a hundred years. And the pictures from them are much worse (I had to look at some for a History A-Level).
