Has your Antifreeze done it's job ?
My old wesfield lives outside under a cover. I'm not sure I want to look, but I have a nagging feeling that it will have frozen solid. How much
antifreeze did I put in back in June ?
Has anyone been brave enough to check their cars ?

I know my daughter's MR2 overheated the other day. Luckily she had the presence of mind to switch it off quick so hasn't seized it, but
the guy that towed her home reckons it's bone dry
I'm guessing it's gone due to freezing (I know the guy who had it before wasn't a servicing freak and so doubt he added anything
other than water if it needed it) and then either a core plug or pipe has gone (hopefully the latter as the Mr2 is a PITA to work on the engine).
Guess I'll find out when I get back in the country. More work
It looks like the Midget is winning at the moment......

My bmw seems to be alright. Suprisingly. Couldn't tell you how much antifreeze its got in. I did put some in when it started snowing the other
night though. Got me wondering, what would happen if you were to try any start a engine thats frozen solid? Surly the timing would go straight out and
wreck the engine straight away

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Depends on whether the water pump is driven by the timing belt and even if it is a lot of the time they will still start. If the timing is chain
driven or not driving the water pump then they will run but make horrible belt slipping noises.

My brother's XR4i has frozen solid. Looks like it has popped a core plug and split the thermostat housing.
Really dont' want to look at my Westie now

cant get to my garage and open the door safely yet. Not hopeful tbh.
Life moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

yeah, i was just writing that on my phone, not thinking greatly in depth to various engine drives. yeah, both my vauxhall engine for the truck and the
BMW are timing belt driven pumps...truck's not got any water in it, and the bmw seems to work ok lol

My Westfield is also on the drive, under about 30inches of snow!
However, the Zetec I am hoping to fit shortly is in the garage!

Lad at work has a Honda Civic and that's gone bang, looks like its cracked the block by the water pump
He said he wasn't sure if there was any Antifreeze in it although he thought it was checked the last time he changed the oil which was 3 years

Maybe we should get together a list of things to do when laying cars up for the winter.
Better check mine in the morning.. I know the washer froze (it does every year no matter how much antifreeze I put in)
