Welder
I was given a welder last week but it didn't come with a torch, gas bottle or plug.
I have tried to search for a torch for it and there is all sorts of different types and I don't know which 1 I want. Also I haven't got a
gas bottle. Where is the best place to get one of them from that I don't have to rent a bottle?
The plug looks like it could be a 3-phase to me but the bloke that gave me it said he used a small extension cable with a 3 pin plug on. Does that
sound right?
Thanks Jamie

So if it is a 3 phase plug does that mean I can't plug it in my normal electrics?

1: Euro torch connection
2: Either a pub bottle of CO2 or there is a trader on here advertising "rent free" bottles
3: That's definatley a 3 phase plug, was this on the machine? just you said it came without a plug?

The torch is a 'Euro Torch'
Linky
I've never heard of being able to run a 3 phase load of a single phase 240v supply.

There will be a plate riveted on it somewhere with details on, find it and all will be revealed. They colour looks like Murex or Lincoln and they did

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I think its a BOC welder.
It may be a dual voltage welder - I used to have one that could be wired to 240 single phase or 415 3 phase.
As said - they should be a panel somewhere.

open the plug to see how many wires there are i work as a generator engineer and its not uncommon to find 240v stuff with 3 phase plugs on and only
running off one phase, if there are 5 wires its 3 phase 3 wires its 240 4 wires prob 3 phase without an earth.

It's possible to run some 3 phase welders on single phase with some simple mods, even when they are 3 phase I think they dont use all 3 phases,
the transformer needs a single phase I think. Mabye your welder has been modded as such?
Have a look around here, tons of info:
