This bit is more scary -
"The film was intended to reveal the dangerous driving habits of two other drivers" - so, she was using a handheld video camera / mobile
because someone else was driving badly? Oh, and if she hadn't been following the van so close, the plank couldn't have reached her car....
She's extra lucky she didn't lose control after it went through the windscreen, seeing as she was driving one-handed....

Seems fake to me, saw it on a Lotus forum and that was also the general consensus.

based on what? i'm not arguing, i just want to know why they, and why you thought it was a fake.
i've had a similar thing happen, but with a rock on the motorway. it got flicked up by a truck tire, and come smashing the windscreen, but
luckily didn't come it. my mum was driving at the time, and the centre of the smash was right in front of her face. it can happen.

Jokers!
It seems if something unusual or strange gets captured on video these days its fake. What part of that is even remotely fake?

I have had similar scary situation. Quite a few years ago doing at least 75 mph in the fast lane of a divided highway(no median , just the cement
barrier) and a hub cap comes flying over the cement barrier and takes out my grill, bonnet and windshield. If it had hit the windshield first I would
not likely be here now.

"Fake!" is pretty much just a standard youtube video comments response these days . I've learnt to ignore it. How and why the
idiots think this was faked is beyond me.

Obviously it's not fake as you all said so
It's only an opinion and the reason is that the pole seems to just come out of nowhere, in as much as there's nothing to indicate why it
would fly up like that from the side of the road. Yes the wheel goes over one end of it but that might spin it, but why would it be thrown upwards
when the surface it's on is flat.
and why is it a standard response for youtube clips, cause most of them are fake, lol

in the slow motion shot you can see it lying on the road then hit the trailer tyre and start spinning upwards

Yes, you can see it on the side of the road but it's laying flat so for a wheel going in one direction to spin it both sideways and also upwards
seems a bit strange to me, as there doesn't appear to be a pivot point lower than where it is already sitting to elevate it.
It's only my opinion and happy for it to be wrong, unlike some who are obvioulsy correct even though they don't actually have any more
proof of their thought than me

only way this could happen is if the stake was pointing into the road with its sharpened end
catching it just right with the trailer tyre would indeed cause it to fly in the air and cause the accident
looks 100% genuine to me

How can you possibly tell that from the video? Bear in mind that even if the bit of wood wasn't fired backward at any great speed, the car is
still approaching the bit of wood at probably 50-60mph.
Looks absolutely 100% real to me. How could it have been faked?

You never flicked a pencil into the air by hitting the pointy end with your hand?
Seriously though - what is the alternative you're suggesting? Someone thinks 'ooh I know what I'll do this week - I'll create
a convincing but fake wooden-stake-flies-through-my-car-windscreen vid for youtube!' They then go about choreographing a wooden stake to go
through their windscreen somehow other than being flicked up by the truck in front, then edit the video so it looks like it really was flicked up by
the truck in front.

Isn't there a requirement for laminated windscreens in the states or is their entire set of safety measures "no pop up headlights and side
markers"
Surely an impact like that would have also shattered the screen rather than broken it like a kitchen window...

thats pretty much how the windscreen smashed on the car my mum was driving when that rock hit, and that was an american ford aerostar we had at the
time. it broke and held together mostly, but where the rock his it did splinter too. was about 15 years ago, so no photos

The whole point of lmainated glass is to stop is shattering. If this had been the rear or side windows for example it probably would have shattered
everywhere.
But the fact is laminated holds all of the broken pieces together so that they dont fly everywhere.

^ thats a very good point!
if it shattered all over into round pieces (like side windows do)
then the driver would either not be able to see out the glass, to pull over somewhere safe, or the windscreen would come in and hit the driver round
the face, causing them to close their eyes, and not be able to see where they were going.
a few years ago when i was in london working, someones car outside ended up with a wooden stake through the windscreen. gang vandalism, or angry ex i
think, but yeah, similar sort of damage to the screen
