I wish we would refer to Di Resta as British which is what he is and indecently so am I.
DC wanted all British fans to support him but then alienated me (probably many others too) by running under the Scottish flag!
Same with Murray, is he British, in which case he has my support or Scottish, which I'm not so don't support him?

di Resta is Scottish from the same Scottish-Italian extended family as the Franchitti's
We have our own parliament and our own national identity it doesn't interfere with our commitment to the union.
I have no problem with Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button being being spoken of as English first British second and European third.

He didn't... he ran under the Union Flag. That's what was raised for his 13 Grands Prix wins and God Save The Queen was what was
played.
He had a Saltire incorporated onto his helmet design. Why would that alienate anyone? Many scottish racing drivers had it!

The whole world wants to be
Scottish first
Irish second
British third.
Stands back and waits for the cake throwing.

Must admit I don't remember DC saying or doing anything to alienate us English Brits, he was proud of being Scottish (nowt wrong with that) but
don't recall anything we could take offense at.

I tell you what as long as the 66 world cup goal (yawn) never gets shown on TV again we will give you Andy Murray and Colin Montgommery for free
--- please take them but we are keeping the other Murray brother.

Add to which DC like quite a few Scottish motorsport heroes of the past is a borderer. ............... Funny how much difference a handful of
miles can make to national identity.
Still Norfolk should has it own heroes it has given us both Martin Brundle and Stephen Fry --- both are national treasures.....

Chaps no offence meant with my original post, we are all British, that's my point.
For context of my comment, I was at the 'race of champions' in 2008 at Wembley Stadium. DC was running with under the Saltire. I'm
British, so supported Loeb in the final! Have to say I was in a minority of around ONE in my part of the stand support Loeb!

Thats because Scotland had it's own team at the ROC (DC and McCrae)... just as the English team was running under the St George Cross.

DC never delivered quite a s much as expected, partly due to bad luck, team orders and the Schumacher-Brawn-Todt-Byrne-Ferrari steamroller but a
large chunk of the blame lay in his apparent inability to adapt to the changes in qualifying procedures as well as his rivals did. The ability to
adapt seamlessly to changes is a true mark of a great driver. You could drop Fangio Moss or Clark in any 4 wheeled racing car class and they
would instantly deliver, di Resta has shown the same ability.
