Cooling configuration on bike engined buggy
On my zx9 engined buggy, I used to just have the radiator plumbed in, with return at the top of the rad, return from the oil cooler at a port at the
bottom below the return, and on the other side a the bottom goes back to the water pump. This worked pretty well, we just filled up the radiator with
coolant, ran the engine a bit and kept filling it up until all of the air had been removed. Didn't have a coolant reservoir or expansion tank or
anything.
Engine overheated a few times when there was either a leak or when it was running lean, but other than that coolant temp stayed in the middle.
Since I am going turbo and managed to put a hole in my rad, I am re-thinking the cooling system. I would want to add a coolant reservoir however at
the moment my radiator mounts are at the top of the buggy, so I can't add a bottle any higher than this.
Since I have a hole in my rad, I am buying another one, I was thinking of going for another R1 rad because I have the radiator fan for it, the coolant
lines wouldn't need to be changed and it gives me a small (15mm) return from the oil cooler.
Any help or suggestions?
Dave
