zetec rev's hanging

drove the wife's focus today when i went to service it and noticed after a few miles the rev's would hang on gear changes.
they would stay the same when pressing the clutch and not drop until the next gear made them drop. sometimes when pressing the clutch they would actually rise.
if i kept the clutch pressed after approx 10 seconds the revs would slowly drop down to normal.

its a 1.8 petrol on a 04 plate

if anyone has any ideas it would be good to hear them before i ask the mechanic when i mot it next week.

thanks

I thought all Focuses did that, along with many other modern cars? Certainly all the hire Focuses and Mondeos I have driven have this infuriating rev hanging. My wife's Hyundai Coupe does it as well.

The ecu is hooked up to the clutch pedal so when it's pressed it will brings up the revs a little too help you not stall it.

i know people say they do it as normal but i would of thought it would only be a little and only for a couple of seconds.

it certainly didn't do it like it is now when i last drove the car and it makes driving smoothly very hard, revving at about 3k and then forcing it back down to 2k when releasing the clutch can't be right.
