MG Midget Restoration

Well, finally managed to get stuck in and hit the Midget with the final colour tonight.

All the graft begins next once hardened off, lots and lots of cutting and polishing

Hope it's all worth it

Is that Primrose Yellow? My son and I have almost completed a 1958 Sprite also in Primrose Yellow, waiting for a rear ali surround and another windshield from over there the early MK1's are different to the later models.

No, it is Inca Yellow. Not quite right for the year (1975) but all we seem to see is red, white or green so we thought as it started life as 'Citron Yellow' - which is more of a light Pea green than a yellow - we would go for a more striking colour

It was a colour used in the slightly later cars and on Triumph Spitfires among others.

We were originally looking for a Mk1 or Mk2, but couldn't afford the money they were fetching

Be good to see some pictures of your resto

Nope, celly

I did the Locost in 2K, everything but the air-fed (I used a 2-filter carbon/charcoal) and it was outdoors under a gazebo, but I wouldn't risk it in the garage I loved the out-of-the-gun finish from the 2K, but with the celly, I did 2 coats of 50/50, then 2 coats of 40/60 and 2 final coats of 20/80 paint/thinners and used the top-notch thinners. I was quite surprised at the quality of the final finish

It will still need fine-grit sanding and polishing, but should come up OK.

Re: the Sprite, best get some pictures up on here

I've got a similar plan in mind for my scimitar, but its currently a shade in between a lemon yellow and your Inca yellow and I'm thinking about a something even brighter (think chiquechento )

Scimitar is a nice motor, gonna look loud in that yellow

I opened the garage doors fully up this morning to let the warm sun in to help start curing the paint, and WOW!! is it yellow in the sun

I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised at the difference laying the last coats on with a high thinner content, it allows you to put a nice wet coat on, but because it's not as heavy with paint it doesn't sag as easily. Still got a couple of runs but overall I'm well chuffed. Slowly getting the hang of my spray gear now. Looks like the Locost will be getting a makeover in the not too distant future
