how to find keyless keys? clever ideas please
After warning the wife loads of times to take care and not lose the keyless entry and start key for my 2009 mazda she went and lost it and to make
things worse instead of looking for her key she just used mine for a week until I noticed mine was missing and she had it.
After a bit of interrogation found the story to be she now cant remember where and when she last had her key and its now over 2 weeks since she last
had it.
Mazda dealer wants a couple weeks wages to get a new one and program it to the car.
I was thinking there must be some way of locating it as the car some how knows its close to it to unlock the door and if its inside the car to alow
the start button to work so is there a way of using the same technologies to find if its close?
Must be some form of radio wave rfid or somthing and I was hoping someone may have a bright idea on how to locate it as we have already turnd most of
the house upsidedown
There is a copper coil on the pcb in my one I have and there is 433mhz on the case
Any help or links would be great guys and gals

Can you see a battery in your one?
If not then it will be harder. If it has then you can use a remote key fob checker, I used to have one in my old work to check that the fobs were
working before we charged for new batteries. So, if it has a battery you could try walking all over the place with one of these to see if it gets
picked up.
If it dont then it may be hard. 433Mhz is the common free uses frequency so detecting it passivily would be hard, I guess.
Thats me out of ideas, good luck.

Yes there is a battery in it I think its a bit of a 2 in 1 type key with a remote open and lock funtion (LED lights on press) and the other way it
works is you keep it in your pocket and just hold the door handle and wait half a second and it unlocks then when your in the car push the clutch and
the start button lights up green and press to start works.
its not that stupid either as you can have your key in a bag in the boot and it will work but if you hold the key in your hand and hold it 3 inches
out the window it knows its not inside the car.
I would think the car must call the key and it replys or the tiny battery would last days if it was transmitting all the time.

You can test if the battery is requried to start the car, take the battery out and have a go.

Waterboarding?
More seriously I'd carry all her coats and handbags, chuck them in the passenger seat and if it activates.

Not sure if this will work, but rather than 'finding the key' can you do the opposite and try and block it.
What I mean is, get your working key, make a frame work using some wire coat hangers and wrap it with tin foil. If you cover the key does it stop the
car recognising it. If it does, great, now go around the house 'shielding' certain areas.
If tin foil doesn't work then not sure what else to try. Lead curtains? Home made faraday cage?
Then hopefully you can narrow down the manual search area.

She drove the car home so you know the key is there somewhere so now it is just a case of finding it. When she comes in with your key what is the
first thing she does apart from hiding it from you ? I once lost my keys and spent hours looking for them then decided to walk instead and found my
keys in my shoe. I'd never put them in there before or since.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I would take YOUR key back, and until she finds HER key, the car is out of bounds
Or get rid of your wife, as it might be cheaper !!
My mondeo locks itself if I put the keys upstairs, but does not any where downstairs, so removing your car key from the equation, ie at a friends
house a few 100 meters away, could reveal that her key is in the vicinity
if it was my wife, I would check all of the 267 handbags full of shite in cupboards all over my house, and it would turn up
But, we have never found the keys to my back door, the shed, the gate, and garage and all the padlocks for our bikes, that were on two keyrings, that
my Daughter lost aged 3 while playing in the back garden
she's 31 now !!!
