De-misting Windscreen (No Heater)...

I'm stripping out a Smart Coupe just now and want to get the weight down to the absolute minimal.

I'd like to ditch the heater assembly if I can - any recommendations on aftermarket means of clearing a misting screen?

Yup, a lint free cloth is cheap, simple and does the job, but I was looking for something a little more pro-active!

Anyone aware of any aftermarket heating elements that would be suitable on a front windscreen?

PS - Smart doesn't have a heated front screen as an option.

Westfield sell a heated windcreen - but it will be not so Locost!

Doh - just realised it's for a Smart - scratch that suggestion!

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure

Thanks, but I suspect a Westie screen might not fit a Smart Roadster.

what about the electric one CBS do? you could then wire it to a 12v plug and take it out when not needed:

linky

EDIT:- no idea if its any good, was considering it before I got my heating working!

That's an interesting option! For all the time it would be used in the cold or damp!

I dont think you'd want to rely on it for warmth in a snow drift :-)

Those small electric demisters are pretty useless, you only have to look at the wattage to know it ain't gonna do much, I put 2 in the footwell of the Furore to try & keep feet warm in Winter, I couldn't tell whether they were turned on or off!

I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/furoreproducts/m.html?_dmd=1&_ipg=50&_sop=12&_rdc=1

How about a travel hair dryer?

There is something you can use that stops things misting up. Problem is, I can only remember what the bike version is called (Fog City).

Someone did a car version, but as with everything on the internet, you have to know what it is before you search for it!!

I think you guys are missing the point, the hair dryers are the same wattage as the 12V demisters, ie they won't demist very much very quickly!!! Maybe you could rob the electric heater from Nissan Leaf or similar - you'll need a BIG alternator though!
