Freedom of Information request
A127 SPECS - 90 percent funded by a private company
A127 SPECSA Freedom of Information request to Essex County Council requesting the cost of the A127 Average Speed Camera installation has revealed that
Essex County Council contributed only 10% of the total installation costs. The remaining £415,226 was paid by a company headquartered in the area,
Keymed Ltd. Quite why a private sponsor is being used to fund speed camera installations isn't explained.

PFI - private finance initiative.
Lots of councils doing it now. They buy it then council pay them to maintain/run it.

Same as the hospitals. Don't pay £ now, pay £££££££££ later. Waste of money if you ask me!!
On the other hand it does mean the councils can say the speed cameras "pay for themselves"....
