RX7 anyone?

Any body used an RX7 or know of someone who has? Got the oppertunity to get one nice and cheap which had a recon engine put in 20k ago. Just wondering if there is any pitfalls I should be aware before I commit myself.

Never had anything to do with these engines, how do you compression check them? Same as a normal engine? Has reciepts for engine and it runs a treat, no noises, knocks rattles or smoke

other end of the country from me and more to the point one of the best rotary garages in the country!

Join either Mazda Rotary Club, (MRC), or FDUK for some great advice. There is a lot, (and I do mean A LOT!), of cr@p out there about these car's and their engines. The above forums have some great peeps there that know everything there is to know about the 13b. (I take it you are looking at an FD?)

If the engine is in good nick then go for it. the engines are small and not too heavy. The rotor tips are the issue with these and usually last around 60,000 miles from what i have read. on the plus side they are a simple engine with very few moving parts and no cam belt etc.

It will deff be different and will be fast so go for it.

just bought an fd for peanuts and had a compression check done at wgt near me to see if its ok. very easy to go wrong tuning these as a little boost goes a long way . you cant do much without getting the car remapped as they are very sensitive to airflow ie de cat and filters are enough to make the engine run lean as they make best power at much lower afr,s than piston engines . ive binned the air pump put a front mount intercooler and fitted a big radiator and a vented bonnet ,with a apexi ecu and mapping session its making around 330 fly wheel hp and is not pushing the stock turbo,s to their limit . single turbo is the way to go which gets rid of the complicated rats nest of pipe work that lives under the inlet manifold, if the car has a few miles under its belt it might be worth changing the rats nest hoses as the heat trapped under the bonnet is incredible .

im impressed with the car in general and its a great tool for drifting in but tuning is a bit scary without expert help as a bit of detonation can ruin an engine

mine had some electrical problems but has only done 36k and was totally stock .

are you talking 13b egi 2nd generation or 1st gen 12a on carbs?

12a will only give you about 120 - 14 hp and the egi will give 140 - 170 with out porting.

Would be a fun engine as they are simple without turbos and you can rev the nuts off them without breaking but turbos are the way to go power.

Mild porting on mine and 0.8 bar boost sees 400 fly hp, just in the process of fitting a proper wastegate to get better boost control and i will up to 450 at 1 - 1.1 bar boost.

They fit nicely too
