Fury build costs
Morning all.
I've been having my usual nose around the interweb for exciting things again, and have come back to the Fury as a possible change of transport.
It seems that my Indy may be worth something around the £6.5K-7K mark, and that I could buy an older Fury for about £5K-5.5K. So buying one is an
option.
However, for some time now I've been making vague plans to build something. At the front of the cue so far are an Alfa V6 powered single seater,
or something 7 shaped with the same engine. But having had a nose around, it turns out the Fury kit isn't as much as I feared. So what did folk
spend building theirs? I don't need an exact figure, but an idea will help me decide what I do next.

Cheers, U2U received and read.
That's quite encouraging actually. I could sell mine and still afford to build my own. Although it would leave me without a car for a while, as
the Indy is my only car.

To save money I'd recommend a part built.
It may entail undoing some stuff but it saves a lot compared to starting from scratch.
I'd budget £10-15k depending on spec.

2 weeks ago I could have sold you everything to build a hayabusa fury for 7.5k......
A real expense for the fury is the bodywork, also i'd call BGH to check 'current' prices for the spec you want, it might not match
the web prices.
Think you should look at about 10k for a decent spec one.... I know an alfa v6 doesn't fit though.

I know about the Alfa fitting issues as Claire has reported about it before. That is a pain, as I really wanted to use the engine, but the Mazda unit
clearly fits, so I may just have to use that. It also means that I can sell the expensive Alfa engine and buy a hopefully cheaper Mazda one and spend
the difference tuning it!

I've never added up the costs of mine but I'd guess they're somewhere towards to bottom of Jims estimate.
Could probably be done for less though. I didn't cut many corners on cost.

Cheapest I've heard of was around the £6,5k mark but it was very minimalist and they fabricated virtually everything (including roll bar)
themselves.

If I do go ahead with the Fury idea, it will be either a very minimal BEC or a very minimal V6 powered car, with me making everything I can. This
would still mean that I'd need to buy a decent exhaust and roll bar, as I would want a full cage.

I know about the extra "hidden" costs that you mention, but those I can hide!
It's more the cost of building/buying the car itself that matter's at the moment.

i think clairetoo built her fury for about 4K! It may have even been less than that but she make most of it herself!
I love Pinto's, even if i did get mine from P&O!

No, I'm not sure! But then I wouldn't put my hand down there to find out. Niether would you if you saw it so it seems like a good place to
hide the evidence!
I did get a lot of stuff at trade prices and a few bits made as favours and called in a few favours owed. Plus I've got shelves and drawers full
of nut's, bolt's, rivet's, brake pipe, fittings...

I was on the road for about 4 1/2 K - that included the full kit at just under 3K , a doner Mk2 Escort for £250 , and new wheels/tyres for £400
It was fairly basic - re-built crossflow and 4 speed box , no hood or rollbar - but I did use absolutely everything I could from the Escort
(engine/box/brakes/loom/switches/clocks/steering rack and column/back axle/radiator)

Claire, if you had to guess, how much do you think it would have cost you to build a fury with your current V6 in it?

My V6 conversion cost just over £900 all in - I think the Fury kit is around 3 1/2 K , so I'm guessing around 5 1/2 should get you enough bits
to build a new V6 powered Fury - plus IVA and registration.......

Hi Si,
I'm keeping a running total of everything I've spent on my build so far, along with costs of the parts I've yet to purchase. If you
U2u me your email, I'll send you a copy of the spreadsheet.
As for the cost of the kits, a powder coated IRS chassis, with roll bar, and gel coated bodywork cost £5025 back in May last year. I remember the
prices on the website being a bit out of date when I ordered.

I've been on the phone to BGH and found the same thing!
The chassis kit is £2911.96, with gel coated body kit being £1685. There's then another £400 or so for a full cage. As you say, not quite as
cheap as the website suggested!

The chassis price will be for the sierra based setup with independent rear end - looking at their website it shows the Escort live axle version to
still be available , and somewhat cheaper .
Sunce the Escort uprights are considerable lighter , and the live axle cars handle just as well , why not go that way ?
Theres stuff included in the kit that you wont need (engine mounts for example) so money can be saved there as well .

Yep, I sometimes wish I'd went for the live axle chassis to save some cash!
Also, the IRS chassis doesn't include modified drive shafts (the website price list isn't very clear on this), so you need to add on the
cost of these, about £200 if I remember correctly. The modifications to the live axle appear to be included in the live axle chassis pack price,
however.
