Contaminated fuel!
Hi all just thought i would post this warning although probably to late. In my place of work we have been fixing a vw transporter van. it came in as
it would not start and they had burnt out the starter. Turned out it had petrol in the diesel tank but customer had diesel receipt to prove that they
did fill with diesel!
They contacted the fuel station but it has been closed because of this (see link)
How many others are there out there?

thats ok, (not for the guy, obviously), but i breathed a sigh of release because it wasn't BP as all site defects and contaminations come threw
my department so if it happened at a BP site i would have known about it!
I love Pinto's, even if i did get mine from P&O!

It says that it has only contaminated the petrol pumps and only in south east england but this is bull as the tesco llanelli in south wales is closed
and a buggered vw van which is diesel! Glad i didnt fill up there.

I was a petrol pump engineer a couple of years ago and this type of problem was not unheard of. Water contamination can be caused by flooding or
leaking underground tanks. Its not unknown for the wrong fuel to be put into the stations tanks. Sometimes the fuel was contaminated at the refinery
as in the tesco sites on the link. Bio fuel was a severe problem at two sites in my area if the correct treatments were not added it would congeal and
form crystals which caused problems in modern engines, the site removed the filters to overcome the slow delivery problems. They eventually closed due
to the number of claims. If you want to claim you must provide proof of where and when you bought the fuel, get the repairer to supply a sample of the
contaminated fuel. If the retailer refuses any liability contact trading standards who should investigate your claims and if needed will close the
site until the problem is solved.

Thanks for the advice. the customer has over 20 litres of contaminated fuel and has already been in touch with trading standards. I think i will be
keeping my receipts safer from now on.
