Lotus 340R or Renault Sport Spyder?
Similar cars similarly rare, similar bomb-proof depreciation.
340R is the better performer, but commands a higher premium.
Spyder...
340R...

The Renault was always blighted by how heavy it is. 150BHP in 930Kg verses 187BHP & 701Kg for the 340R. I think you need to take the body off
the 340R to do virtually any work on it which causes it to be expensive to run.

I agree with just about everything said as the 340r has always been my fantasy car, but the Renault shouldn't be written off (not literally
anyway!).
Came out about the same time as the S1 Elise (4 years earlier than the 340r) and was every bit as advanced (perhaps moreso) than the S1 Lotus. Like
the Lotus it's let down by not having a more powerful engine (150bhp Williams unit and 177bhp from the Rover K).
They are both bomb-proof depreciators... you have some money under the mattress??? Then buy either - it'll be worth the same once you're
bored with it!
But the things that have always put me off the Spider are:
1. It's not a Lotus.
2. It's French.
3. The Weight (930kg 340r weighs 701kg)
And that's it!

340r
been in one as a passenger, it was awesome. I have an elise sport 190 (so same engine spec as 340R) and the 340r spanks it.

Just check out working on the 340R, from memory I think it's horrific as the body has to be removed for a lot of it, makes for expensive
repairs.
Lotus charge £750 to remove & replace the bodywork and you have to do this for some reasonably simple items like the battery and radiator.
The body is also one peice and not available in sections to repair accident damage parts, like a fibreglass Elise, and it costs £4100 + 77 hours
labour to make good
Cracking car though, just beware of hidden costs assosiated with this model compared to an Elise.
Kind regards
John

It's not uncommon to see 340r's with the 'bodywork-conversion'. Essentially the top bodywork unit gets sliced in half!
Keeps the bills down (a bit) for some of those 'routine' jobs!
