A vauxhall C20xe is 155kg and a 1.2 8v is 130 ish.

bearing in mind the twink is a similar size to the 1.2 block, but with a larger head and an extra cam, Id estimate 135-140kg.

how heavy???

bloke shipping engine minus the head is weighed in at 60kg, so my guess at 20kg for the head may be pretty close.

Just mulling over my next steps... need to make a solid decision as to whether I should flog all the kit bits, engines, etc. and buy an interesting 'sunday' car?

Thinking:

Late Jaguar XJS (6.0 V12), or
Lotus Elan or Europa

if you do, then at least get one of the new spyder chassis and build one with a xetec in it. Please do not think youll buy a lotus twink and use it relaibly on the road for any reasonable cost!

Yep... but would put a Duratec in it - hence the reason I asked about weight - was curious to see how they compare!

1558 Twincam was a money pit when it was new running one now would be more like a money black hole.

The engine pictured appears to have crank, pistons & rods in it so its just the head and fly thats missing. I wouldn't quote a flywheel weight in an engine weight so we're back to my original comment, its the head thats missing.

Fair enough, the weights I quoted included the flywheel, clutch cover, both manifolds loom and ecu as I wanted a direct before/after comparison. You can probably knock 25+kg off both if youre not including any of that.

All the very very expensive bits are missing --- really take a deep breath and swallow some sensible pills.

These engines need constant attention and when engine work is needed they are not DIY friendly they need fettled by an engine builder specialist in these engines.

Nah!

Can't be that heavy.
I lifted it in with one hand and did up the bolts with the other.

Cheers

Thanks guys!

The car I'm looking has just been restored... the engine and gearbox are still out, so if I bought it, I'd be moving the Twincam engine and box along (selling stuff... what, who me???).

Seem to fetch pretty good money!
