I'm in Trouble
My wife has just test driven an MX5 Roadster (Fold-away hard top) and is smitten with it!!!!!!!
What do I do as I am very concerned as to where this is leading?!  
All advice greatfully received.

Does she make more money than you do?
If she doesn't, explain she cannot have a more expensive car than yours.
How much did you pay for your 4X4?

Just tell her you already have a small two seater sports car and that it wouldn't be practical to have another one. Then offer to buy her a
scooter to get that same 'driving in the open air' thrill and exhilaration................
Or tell her that you were considering starting a family and an MX5 isn't a suitable family car......

Good time to buy. They haven't attained classic status yet but they're bound to as they basically re-invented the 2 seater sports market
(which was pretty dead when they released it). So buy it, keep it, and watch it go up in value

Whats the problem?? If she has a job and can afford it then she can buy herself one. If she hasnt then point her to the Job Centre and open her a
savings account - sorted!!

I know where it's leading: the MX5 being a fairly practical car, will have you off the impracticality of kit cars in an instant. I know it would
me. Be careful!

oh dear. horrid little things. good for donor parts though.
crash safety non-existent, comfort crap, cheap nasty plastic interior,

Both my wife and my sister own one.
They both love them to bits.
I've driven both, new version and old.
Must say I prefer the old, but would have either rather than a "Normal" car
FREE THE ROADSTER ONE…!!

Well there's classic status and tax exempt. The 205 GTI is officially a classic, along with the Sierra Cosworth and (iirc) the Renault 5 Turbo.
You'll get the classic insurance but not the tax

check the rear arches and sills for rust.they rot really bad.

I've driven my sister-in-law's older MX5 - very nice, well behaved, not a huge amount of power (in that model) but not really
necessary.
It's one of those cars that's just nice to drive - not boring, not scary, just pleasant and rewarding.
I'd recommend buying one - but get it inspected for rust before paying money...

All joking aside (well most of it ). I got to keep the MX5 (actaully a Eunos Roadster) 'cos she had the bigger car for obvious reasons....
I used it for around 3 months and to be honest I thought it was a hoot Drifted around roundabouts a treat and was very predicatable. As already
said, not overly quick (it was the 1600 Twin Cam 16V) but it was quick enough for a bit of fun.
It looks like the Midget is winning at the moment......

Its a folding hardtop and therefore a Mk 3 that is at most a couple of years old.

Does she regularly use the back seats or most of the boot? If yes tell her she can't be borrowing your car all the time and she might see the
light.
