Facet Fuel Pump

I have a solid state Facet fuel pump fitted to my bike carbed Skoda Estelle trials car. I am having some running problems with the engine and want to discount the fuel pump as faulty or otherwise. Is it safe to assume that if the pump is ticking on turning on the ignition that it will be pumping correctly at all times or is there another way of testing that it is working correctly all the time? Hope this doesnt sound like one of those 'DOH' questions.

Jacko, are you reffering to the need to have the carbs running at the correct fuel pressure? I have the pump feeding a Filter King so I can adjust it correctly.

If you cant find a bike pump I can recomend This its sold by webcon for weber's it has a good flow rate and is around 2psi so no need for a regulator.

You may find the regulator isnt giving the flow you need at the presure that its set at.

The ticking noise is only part of a working Facet, there are 2 check valves inside.
1. in the front of the piston
2. in the inlet seat for one way flow

If either of these is broken the pump will tick but not work.

That said it is easiest to attach a gauge on the outlet if the pump is in the car.

One of these simple tuneup gauges should do, vacuum on the one side and pressure on the other

You might be able to feel if there is a "pulse" when holding the pump outlet pipe to the carb. Rescued attachment vac gauge.JPG
