There might have been a CHAV at the wheel of the car giving him a load of verbal abuse and the trucker thought that might shut him up.

If the truck driver didn't know that the car was there he should not be driving.

If you slow down and pause the video when the truck is alongside the car taking the video you can see the drivers head. Taking a line from the drivers eyes through the lowest part of the screen tells me that he could see, at the minimum, the nearside of the Clio. He could not have missed the bright red lights of the brakes in front of his truck.

There is another way the truck driver would know that there was something amiss. If you are driving along the motorway travelling at the mandatory 56MPH, when suddenly the truck starts to slowdown/needs more pedal to keep the truck at 56MPH, one has to ask themselves what is going wrong.

It's drivers like that who get truckers a bad name.

Over 1200lbs torque and at 56mph the governer is controlling the speed. You
wouldn't need more pedal, in fact his foot is probably planted anyway to maintain
speed up hills. 3/4 tonne of Clio on a wet road wouldn't make that motor flinch !
