Jaguar S type 2.7D

I am thinking about buying a Jag S type 2.7 twin turbo diesel,around a 2006/7 model, for towing my caravan,and track car trailer etc,they look good value for money,but what are they like? anyone had one,do they have a cam belt or chain ?,anything for me to look out for,thanks.

They were always an under rated car, mainly due to the styling. The new XF the press all rave about is the same underbody as the S type so it can't be all bad!!

We must be getting to that age Mark,it will be pipe and slippers next
But I can't find any bad reviews,but as Austen says,styling not everyones cup of tea,but I think its image with them,"bit of a old man's car",but I can live with that,looking at the sport model,with the manual box

Give one a go.

Iirc the X-type is based on the mondeo I have, and the XF looks pretty much exactly like the newest one so I imagine the S-type is going to be pretty similar.

I have to say my good lady hates the idea - she thinks it's an old mans car too but I can't get the image of Sabine Schmidt taking it round the Nurburgring in 9min 12s or whatever it was out of my mind

Sounds like the car and the lap time isn't at the forefront of your mind there, which leaves Frau Schmidt and the Ring...
