Worl place parking

Hello all,

i live in nottingham and for the past few years there has been derbate about the introduction of a workplace parking levy, with the proceeds to fund the expansion of the tram system (well they look nice on promotional photos so they must be a good idea)

with a new government the tram expansion may well be shelved but the levy seems like it will come into place anyway.

my employer (the university) had decided to adopt its own charge anyway. so the challenge is, but a kit car that is classed as a bike to avoid the charge entirely.

i've looked at MEV's trike, but does anyone use these every day? there's is also grinall but these seem to come up so rarely these days.

i dont quite fancy the likes of lomax as i'd like some more oomph

can anyone suggest anything else?

Paul

Grinnall would be nice

The MEV trike looks OK though personally I would check whether the Atomic nose/bonnet fits instead of the sevenalike front. Also, I would put some sides/footwells on to reduce wind/weather coming in. Lexan sides could look quite good - keep the exo look, but with a bit more weather protection?

As for whether people use them on a daily basis: people use bikes on a daily basis so, as long as you don't expect it to be like a tintop, why not?

Being charged to park at work, especially by ones employer is a perverse system (like having to buy your own uniform). We have the same here (I am based at a Hospital).

I did considering taking the roll cage off, and then I could just drive out under the barrier (remembering to duck at the critical point!)

There might be a scam about electric powered vehicles, as putting a supplementary electric drive onto a car is easier than losing a wheel. Its likely that they will change the rules on you, so make sure you make something that you want.

the grinnal would be great, it was the first kit car i ever lusted after, used to have a pic of one above my desk at work for years.

just a shame that there dont seem to be many coming up for sale. if anyone know of one going spare?

forgive my ignorance but it seems an expensive way to save money on parking. or do you have a little bit of antidistablishmentarilism in mind...

you're spot on! it would be nice to think that i could drive to work every day in a great car and avoid the parking charge.
especially when its such a bl**dy unjustifiable bit of money raising for the local council.

they will probably just change the rules anyway

used to be that you dont have to pay for parking a trike in the car parks etc

but down here where I live they put a ticket on my trike, spoke with the council and they informed me that as it is in a car space I have to pay for it

they have told me to buy the ticket, keep it in my wallet, then when I get a ticket, send it in with the purchased ticket and they would cancel the fine

heavy is good, heavy is reliable, and if it breaks, hit them with it

MEV's electric car (I think its based on the missile) looks amazing and I could afford to buy one I'd had one to go to work and back in.

Thats a common council trick, set something up to pay for something and cancel the project but keep the revenue stream. All this thing usually does is cause people to go and park in housing estates and cause missery for the people that live there (Nothing worse than waking up to find someone parked blocking your drive and them to still be there hours later).

I also agree that its wrong for an employer to charge you for parking, they give you money, you pay tax on all of it and then give some back? Hospital parking fees are a con aswell.
