Should my tintop shock be hissing?

Over the past few months i have been experiensing a very faint knocking from the osr on the tintop when goin over bumps (even small ones), that has been slowly getting worse (more frequent rather than louder). I originally put it down to the exhaust hitting something as it used to disappear when the car warmed up.

As it is now doing it all the time, i have just been out to look at the exhaust but it is all fine. What i have noticed is that the osr shock is making a hissing sound when i bounce that corner and i can also hear a faint knocking. The thing is that the rear shocks were only replaced a year ago and have only done about 7k since. Surely the shock cant have gone in such a small amount of time?

How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

New damper required.

Hissing? Is it more of a squelching as the oil flows through the damper?

Are you sure you dont have a dodgy bush somewhere? (or loose top mounts!)

It is more of a hissing. Definately not a squelching. It sounds like a bike pump.

Depends if you have a oil one on the other side! Most shock manufacturers sell both types for the same car.

Sometimes the rubber boots (if fitted) can hiss as air enters & exits, which is normal. A noisy shock will normally leak

The hiss isn't the main symptom to consider it is the click ---- if the bushes are OK and tight then any clicks or clunks usually indicate and internal problem in the damper. If you then consider the hiss/squelch noise only coming from that particular damper it points pretty conclusively to a failed damper.
