its just based on an exige cause it would have cost them too much to build their own car from scratch.

I've seen a few build diaries using the LS V8 engines with turbos and they do appear to make quite a lot of power. You can buy kits to do this including one for the RX7 which I've just converted to an LS engine. So actually not that uncommon to see some very high HP engines even though a lot of them are just for the drag strip.
