Diff porn - Tran-x fitting
New Tran-x LSD diff arrived today and I set about fitting it.
I had already dismantled the orginal 3.92 open diff in preparation. I made a tool to undo the bearing carriers then they came undone quite easily. I
left the pinon in the diff as I didnt want to disturb it and you need some special tools to undo the very tight pinion nut.
After it was stripped I cleaned the casing inside and out and then was ready for the next bit.
Removed the crown wheel from the original open diff, undo all but 4 bolts and then use them to take the gear off by tapping the heads of the bolts.
Comes off very easily.
Then fitted the crownwheel to the new diff

Again nice and easy, used the bolts to pull the crown wheel back on square.
Then fitted new bearings to the diff and new outers in the bearin carriers. Also took the opportunity to fit new seals and input shaft seal. Again all
nice and easy to do.
Fitted the diff back into the casing and adjusted the backlash and preload.

There you have it. One shiny new LSD....
The Tran-x itself is a Caterham spec unit. Set with steep ramp angle and light preload so should still be nice and gentle in a lightweight car.
