I think its for geometry \ suspension set up.

Im sure somebody more educated will be along shortly to correct me if im wrong!

The Golf is sitting on pads....


The wheels will be getting fettled for geometry , I bet those cables run into a computer somewhere to read the data.

Wheel alignment/toe in/out


The frame on the front of the car will be used as a datum point.


Failing that Im talking utter sh1t
