TR7V8 ALTERNATIVE ENGINE?

Hi,years ago i built a tr7v8 convertable which i still have sat in one of my garages unused for 5years mainly as its so thirsty coupled to the price of fuel and car tax anyway the missus says why dont you put a smaller more economical engine in it so we could use it?
basically its still in very good condition and wouldnt take much top go through an mot.
so any sugestions on an engine to go in it has to economical first thought was a turbo diesel as i have a nice one sat in an escort but the cars too good to scrap
then i thought rover k series as i can prob get one for next to nothing.
anyway looked for a tr7 forum but they all seem defunct so thought id ask the mountain of knowledge on here.
any suggestions thought etc.
thanks in advance Ray

zetec or duratec?
you could probably get more power out the duratec than the v8 had

I saw a magazine review that put a zetec inan mgb and the fuel economy and performance were both greatly improved (with little tuning on the engine). Big_wasa on here has made a zetec run using the standard ford ecu so that should keep costs down a bit too.

What about using the V8 with EFI and Megajolt. I have heard that can improve RV8 running costs. Also LPG.

Or keep it really simple and drop the TR7 engine back in??
But then again a zetec would be a cheap and easy enough fix. Don't know if all the std injection stuff off theengine would fit under the bonnet. If it did it would be VERY cheap to do. In fact, flog the V8 and you would be in pocket

K series wouldn't work that well car is too heavy, the unbreakable Rover T or M series will give you 140 bhp without any mods even in the non turbo version, turbo version has a lot more (170 to 190 as standard) Sherpa 2 litre bellhousing bits bits should allow it bolt to the gearbox.

On the other hand LPG conversion should not be costly on a RV8 -- common conversion on Ranges just uses a mixer system. ask here http://www.lpgforum.co.uk/

Might struggle to fit a sizeable LPG tank in it?

What about Ford 24V V6 Cosworth? Probably more powerful than the V8 anyway...?
