Future classic investments
When i was a lad (some time ago) when browsing the Exchange and Mart you could get E-types for under £2k and De Tomaso Pantera for just over.
What sports cars would you suppose would have disproportionate price increases in the future???
Most TVR's - I'm biased
Jag XK- not so much XJS
Boxster
SLK??? -they are cheap at the moment
Z3??? -though ugly
MX5 -good but cant see them making hugh gains
Thoughts????

TVRs i guess would be a safe bet. although after owning a few i notice that they are more useful for keeping an area of the drive drive or the garage
full.
maybe the 3 series e30 to add to your list.

I think that the Sierra Cosworth will be future classic, so a good one now would be worth hanging on to.... Also, strangely enough, possibly a first
edition Prius, just because they were the first of a class of car?

I think the cossie is already there, they are several thousand pounds plus for a 20yr old ford, so must be considered to be a classic already.
Renault Avantime will be a rare one to look out for.
Hot hatches are a safe bet:
Clio v6, xr2(i) mk2 and 3, Nova sport, clio williams, 205 gti.

I know they're very common at the moment, but I'd always thought a nice, original, unmolested Mk1 Audi TT would be a good bet.
They're now falling into the Chav price bracket and I've already seen a couple of howlers.....
Give it 10-15 years and they'll probably be quite sought after.
Just a thought.
Martin.

capri is pn the up, a couple of years a go they where cheap as chips, fords are a safe bet really, id go with the first focus rs, loads of parts to
keep them going but quite rareish, also the racing puma, still thats about 4.5k minimum.
Id hope the celica gt4 would be as they are silly money for something that does 0-60 in 5.1 standered. as are the mk2 mr2 turbo's.
away from cars, now cycling and building TT bikes

All the ford Cossies are there, you need about £14k to even look at an escort and then they are rough. The saphs seem to start at 4k for a dog but
£15k for concourse and the 3 doors are like £25-£30k for a concourse one!
Also the E30 3 dr beemers are already going up - a lot. You could get 318is's for £500 all day and they were tidy, now you see mint ish ones for
more like £1500-£2000 and 325 sports are £5k plus. They are todays mk2 escort on the night rally scene (318is - 4cyl rule), going up in popularity and
unfortunately price too.

The problem with the cars suggested (Z3, MX5 etc.) is that they sold in sufficient numbers to make them common and they’re well enough build to make
sure there's plenty of them around in reasonable order. What you need is something that is rare and also self eliminating - IE they break and
rot themselves into being a rarity (hence why a good lancia is worth a reasonable sum). TVR is probably the way to go on that basis.

Boxster, been looking at autotrader, 6 yr olds going round 15 k so cheap, can't figure out why a similar 911 is 10 k more .... but boxster could
well be a classic.
having said that, there is something about today's culture that does not seem to want to keep old cars going, look around you, how many cars
over 5 yrs do you see, or over 10 or even 15 years?
Very few, Peeps have got more cash than they did when you were a yoof plus in real terms, I bet cars are lot cheparer too plus they aren't
designed for the DIY mechanic like they used to be (were less complicated).
I'd like to think volvo 850 T5 and 850 R will be future classics.

I totally agree with the above. You need something that people know and loved when they were younger. So that means quite common, some pedigree and
they need to become quite rare. Just look at the mark 1 escort nowadays. Give it 5 years TVR's will go at a snip. Restore them and garage
them for 15 years and you'll make cash. I doubt its a way to make cash however......bit like my car

Over 5? Loads. Over 10? a few. Over 15? not many. Isn't that "normal"?
I bought a Suzuki Cappuccino last year for £4,000 (it was mint and very low mileage) when Practical Classics were suggesting £3750 for a grade 1 car.
This month, they've revised the price down to £3,000. Typical. It has all the ingredients though. Rare, good looking, RWD, quite quick for
the time (0-60 in 9 seconds was GTi acceleration in the early 90s) and it is a hard top convertible. Because untreated cars have problems with rust,
I'd have thought minters would hold their value well. Still, I've always wanted one and now I've got one.

Whilst I agree with many of the cars above, I dont think that hardly any of them will make such massive gains. MX5 etc too many. On second thoughts
TVR's I think should make only reasonable gains, but at the end of the day they are glorified Kit cars. TVR owners will hate that, but its
true.
Esprits should do well as they are quite cheap at the moment.

"Regular" classic's of the future will probably include.
Lotus Elise, Exige, VX220 maybe the Esprit.
MX5 will be the MGB of a future classic scene.
Smart, definitely the Roadster, maybe the 2 seater shortie.
MINI should make it.
EVO's and Impreza's
BMW M cars (regular 3/5 series I'm not so sure about).
Morgan's
Last of the proper Saab's?
Doubt much that spends any time unloved will survive.
