How Much! O/T

My wife's Fiesta 1.4 TDCI needs injector seals replacing. Just been quoted £600 +Vat by local garage £400 +Vat by a main Ford dealer (4.5 hours plus parts of around £10).

What do you think?

Join the club wife 1.4 same problem.

Been quoted a couple of hundred ( providing they all come out ) at my trusted indipendant garage but this could be a 'Mates rate' rather than a going rate.

But this might be sooner rather than later as she called to say it wont start this morning

Regards

Good idea but they are not that easy to get to.

the 1.4 is the XUD ( pug ) so not on the dreaded Bosch derv injectors but they can still be troublesome to get out.

If it's what I'm thinking of (the seal around the injector where it screws in) then it shouldn't take 4 hours, unless they're in a right awkward place (engine's upside down?)

a good couple of hours to do 'right' and a pain to do re access, washing up liquid on the new seals is known good practice.

replacing injector pipes is also 'Highly recomended'.

some garages quote for replacement injectors rather than just replacing the seals.

The injectors on this engine have very fragile nozzles and tips and it can also take a while to clean off the carbon build up around the injectors. Not an over complicated job but to do it right can take a while . Replacement of the injectors isn't a bad idea but not always neccessary
