OT - tintop question about DPF oil
Hi all
My tintop has been in for service and the main stealer has told me the DPF oil needs changing.
Thing is they reckon the oil costs £200 !!
Does that sound right ??? Apparently the ECU then needs to be reset to say its been done to stop the check engine light going on.

Never heard of DPF oil...so armed with Google I thought I would look it up

was my first hit advertising
£4.65 (£5.46 Including VAT at 17.5%)a litre or
£29.87 (£35.10 Including VAT at 17.5%) for 5 litres of the stuff
By my calcs it means your car would be needing 28 and a half litres of the stuff (assuming he doesn't get trade discount)
I would ask him how big he thinks your sump is before going elsewhere
Another search seems to suggest that £80 is enough at some places for turning the light out and telling the computer the job has been done
This is assuming its a Mazda!

Sorry its a 1.6 TDCI C-Max..
Had a look at those oils and they do seem a lot cheaper ... but I think it's an additive oil they are talking about. Apparently the Ford kit
they use is £165 for 5 litres of the additive/oil and then resetting ECU to tell its been changed...
just wondering if I can get it done cheaper elsewhere. I'll have to see if I can find indepedent...

put the oil in your self and remove the bulb.
In a White Room, With Black Curtains, By the Station.

I think they are talking about the oil for the FAP filter in the exhaust. Peugeots need the same to burn off the soot the filter collects.
Alot of other manufactuers use a 5th injector in the filter to start the regeneration process.

yep thats what the nissans use - think theyre having a laff - 200 for oil!!!!! whole service costs me about 130!

The oil in question is not engine oil. Whilst I agree cars with a DPF will use a better quality engine oil than most, this DPF oil is stored in a
cannister and injected into the DPF filter when the "soot" levels in the DPF are at a maximum level. The heat from this process starts a
"regeneration" of the filter and will burn the collected soot off.

Hi prawnabie - so the oil isn't in the DPF but in a resevoir and only used when needed ? If that's the case is there a way of telling if
the oil needs refilling ? I take it that this is a DPF oil refill not strictly an oil change ?
