Can someone help me with my 1.4 16v 2002 Clio?
Just bought a Clio in Greece getting ready for moving there in Dec. I have a few problems that i would like to sort out.
Problem 1: While playing with climate control, the temperature numbers dissappeared and i do not have a clue what i did or how to mend it.
Problem 2:There is a buzzing noise when the ignition is on.
Solution: I believe the solution is to clean up the fan inside the roof console?
Problem 3: The engine sometimes does not start first time when engine is a bit hot.
Solution: Change coolant temperature sensor?
Problem 4: Engine is not idling properly sometimes. It will be ok and after a while, it will start playing up from 500 to 1000rpm.
Solution: Changed the O ring between inlet manifold and throttle. Made it a bit better but hasn't solved it. (Could the slight exhaust leak
between manifold and downpipe cause it?)
Help me plzzzzzzzz

We've just sold a 1.4 Clio, worst car we've ever owned! Wouldn't stop going wrong and cost us a fortune.
Not sure about 1 and 2 but 3 could be the crank position sensor or coolant sensor as you said.
4 sounds like crank position sensor or the sticky throttle body, on mine it did the same and was the fly-by-wire throttle control not keeping a steady
idle presumably due to dirt build up in the throttle body.
Have you googled 'Most Common Clio Faults'? It's a thread I think on Parkers.co.uk that has loads of this sort of info discussed in
it.

Well if you haven't figured it out yet
I am a Renault Fan.
This is my 4th Renault and 3rd Clio. Can you guess what my next car will be?
A megane coupe maxi replica.
The most annoying is the Climate control. as i don't have a clue what i did and how to undo it. It was working before i put my finger on it.

Problem 3 is possible the crank sensor. These engines suffer quite badly from this fault along with coil faults. Renault even have a modified sensor
which includes a new plug and needs soldering into the loom to replace the old plug.
There's a fan in the roof? Never seen that before.

I have seen this being sold with the blug but was unsure why.
I will also get some spare coils. I have found a couple but looking for Beru or Denso.
The fan is under the courtesy light inside the roof console.
Thank you for the info

Carbon monoxide sensor in the roof will be buzzing, either replace or see if you can stop the fan buzzing somehow.
Starting problem will be either TDC sensor and loom on possibly key/decoder ring.
The 1.6/1.4 engines are quite unstable at idle, but not exccessive. I would try a set of coils on it if it seems too unstable.

P.s Forget the Beru or denso coils, fit the Valeo ones with the brown top, these are less prone to failure.

Thank you for the info.
The keys are working fine. It's just that i have to keep pushing the starter motor for 5-6 sec in order to start it when most of the times would
be the normal 2-3 secs.
2 of the coils had been changed. I was thinking of changing them again as a lot. I found some renault ones for 15 quid each.
Either way, i got a cheaper clio than the ones i was looking at just to keep money for a good service and rectify faults like that.
Any ideas why the temperature is not displaying at the climate unit? Should i start looking for one?

I'd pull it all out and plug it back in again, sounds like either the unit has come loose or just broken.

Have you read the fault codes and looked at the ECU live data ?
Also these are very prone to wiring loom problems where the loom goes into the engine ECU you tend to find chaffing and water ingress.
Also be aware these engines have a reputation for random cam belt failures.

No faults at all. Ecu and live data all clear
I need to install Dialogys to find parts for it through ebay. I plan to keep the car for 3-4 years and i want to have some spares as in Greece you do
not have so much option to find cheap parts from salvaged cars..
