New 4 Way Toolpost to Suit Myford Lathes Etc

Ref: FWP2,

Brand New Item to suit Myford ML7 , Super 7 and similar lathes. The Block measures 2 3/4 square and 1 3/8 " High with a 7/16 Centre

Hole. Tool capacity is 1/2".

There is a recess in the base which houses the indexing mechanism. Precision ground.

Am I missing a point.....yes it may be the genuine myford bit but its not a complex part and the myford one will have had a lot of use

Does seem a bit mad. I'd love a lathe but the 4-800 needed for a half-decent one is beyond my budget

never understood all the fuss over the myfords all the spare bits seem to fetch silly money. they are not bad machines but i would much rather have my Harrison with auto feed on all axis and hydraulic copy attachment also love the fact that it will swing a 14inch wheel with no problems.

When you have a small shed, the Myford is the best lathe, without doubt.

I have just been given one of these

I went to the shop ChesterUK and bought a set of cutters and a tailstock chuck with a taper converter all for the princly sum of £38 so not bad really.

I have got one of those little toy lathes as well as the big one. It's ok for really small work but takes hours to make anything on as you can't make big cuts.

Anything With Tits or Wheels Will cost you MONEY!!

Building: It is an ex-Locost - it has gone to the IOW!

Mango,

You'll find that the Myford one will be better made (in the UK) and will fit together and work, as long as it hasn't been abused.

The cheaper one will be made in China, and may work perfectly (but may well not). I have several lathe tools & fixings made in China - they're okay-ish, but don't have a nice feel to them.

I also have a couple of items made by Skoda in CZ (as was) - they're very, very good!

I will admit to having quite a bit of Chronos stuff - picked up at model engineering exhibitions years ago.

I'll have to get hold of one of their catalogues again... damn you for leading me back into tool-buying ways, Mango!

I bought a quick change tool post from them a few years back; it was a typical 3C quality item (Cheap Chinese Crap). It now works 'adequately' after a bit of fettling, and it was a lot cheaper than a decent branded item so can't really complain.
