SAAB 9-5 1.9TID 150 Vector Sport Estate???
Thinking of buying one of these - for its fuel consumption, towing ability etc.
Anyone have any experience (other than the usual SAAB benefits of good all-round performance, comfort etc.)?
What's the difference between that engine size and the older 2.2 in terms of performance?
Are diesel automatics any different to petrol versions?
Already had a 9000 and 9-5 so don't need persuading just checking for any horror stories.
Thanks, Pewe

Are they just re-bodied vetras? We run a fleet of 150bhp vectras at work and they're quite pants, unreliable/bad driving positions and feel
like they're made of paper.
I guess Saab would have sorted out the ergonomics of the car but the engines seem to hit lots of trouble at 80+K. These are motorway cars too.

I used to have an Audi A4 2.5 Tdi auto at work, sportomatic all singing all dancing and....
Never did like the Td & auto thing , I always ended up manually changing as you seemed to wait an age from a standing start to wind up the elastic
band.
So for that reason I never have quite desired a Td & Auto combination.
Auto Petrol yes....
Manual diesel yes...
Just my thoughts.

not quite they are based on the floor pan of the signum, the early 150ps engine suffered from inlet manifold issues 2005 models, and dpf on the zafera
and the usual dmf and egrv.
the engine responds very well to tuning and will happy return 200 bhp
basic vectra designed for fleet use are what they say cheap, so dont expect a comfy leather seats, where as the higher models get better seats.
i'm on my 2nd with no major issues, i drive hard and i see 50+ mpg and 45 with a the 7 on a trailor.
keep clear of the older 2l and 2.2, reliable but old and slow now as they arnt direct injection and suffer from cam chains and bad starting due to
injector return pipes and lose injectors

Thanks guys.
The auto and slow wind up were tickling the back of my mind. Still as Graeme ^^ says 200bhp isn't too shabby - gather they have 236lbft of
torque to start with.
Suppose a test-drive's called for.
Nice thing about SAABs is their ergonomics are good for 6' and upwards. The Themas I had years ago weren't designed for Northern
Europeans!
Cheers, Pewe

slightly different car I know but i recently test drove a couple of 9-3 aero's and was left extremely underwhelmed, not very comfortable and
build quality was very poor. Test driven a mondy st220 since and was 10x better allround.

I was looking to buy a 2007 9-5 1.9tid estate 2 months ago as a change from the Discovery I had, was all set to do a deal then I phoned Warranty
direct for a quote, Feck I nearly fell off my chair at £590 a year. The Discovery (Not known for is cheap running costs) is only £300. That told me
most nearly all I needed to know about how much time it may be off the road for visits to its nearest dealer.
Good drive though !!
