OT - Whats my Tin-Top worth ?
I'm starting to get pee'd off with my tin-top  (see the my other threads - and assuming I fix it before selling......)
its a 2001 Focus 1.8 (petrol) 5dr hatch with 106K on the clock, MOT till mid April 2011 and a full 12 months Tax
the totaly honest description:
I recon its had a hard life before I got it at 79k
I've had to change the sump and steering rack, the clutch is a bit spongey and the dampers arn't as fresh as i'd like (still got
plently life left though for some one less fussy than me)
Its had a wee scrape on 3 out of the 4 corners (just a mark in the plastic bumpers, both front wheels were kerbed when I got it but I swapped them for
good ones)
add to that a little rusty bit on the bottom of one of the rear doors and a cople of stone chips - so not perfect
the interior is fairly clean (could do with a hover out though  )
its had new pads, discs, drums and shoes and currently has a 4 decent vredestein tyres on (£65 a corner! - fronts about half worn, rears hardly worn
at all)
oh and its not got ABS, aircon traction, control or any of the other fancy stuff (it has now got an old blaupunkt MP3 CD player)
the likes of glasses give it a part-ex value as low as £815 
so what do folk here recon - is it worth trying to sell it ? (rather than part-ex)
or should I try and flog it as a donor for an MEV.....

In turn for this pricey sum your car will be immortalised in several websites. Decorated in a eye-catching wrap..... and driven till the wheels fall
off in a faraway land ..

this would be about £1195 at the trader next door to me.
have seen them from £850 to be honest
I would either list it in local freeads etc etc, or just run it into the ground.
heavy is good, heavy is reliable, and if it breaks, hit them with it

I would say a wash and hoover might get you a bit more or my other thoughts are that it has another 10 years left in it.
Cost of keeping it on the road must far outway the cost of a new one.

normally I'd do everything that needed done
but I'd really like to 'refresh' the thing - so all new bushes, dampers, brake calipers, heat shields...... and thats just for
starters - it all adds up!
it doesn't all need done, but its really starting to feel its age 
and add to that it'll be due a timing belt in 18 months and the clutch will probably have had it by then to
it probablt would be a fair bit cheaper to keep it on the road, but I'm getting sick of it (its latest little niggle is driving me nuts)
so I'm now thinking that if the right car comes along at the right money I'll just get shot of this one.....
I do most of the work on it myself and its getting in the way of the dax build now

I suppose £1100-1300 is reasonable if it was mint. I guess take of the cost of the needed repairs, and maybe quarter to half of those that
aren't needed like the bit of rust and scratches.
