Caterham but registered as Lotus?

I'm going to see a Caterham this weekend. It's an ex academy car from 1999 and has been used in the graduate championship.

I did a quick car data check on it and the make and model comes up as just Lotus.

Does this seem normal or odd? It's definitely a Caterham I'm sure!

Thanks,
Oli

It could be a home built race car that is being used on the road on a V5C from a scrap Lotus. That would save having to SVA it. I believe they call that incorrectly registered.

Of course it could be legitimate, but I'm struggling to think of a circumstance where it would be.

Be carefull could be very difficult if you want to sell it on. Check the date of manufacture on the log book and see if it ties up.

Guess all you have to do is write Lotus in the box on the v55 form and hope whoever deals with it at DVLA doesn't question it.

Isn't a V55 form for registering a new vehicle?

I think Adrian is suggesting that the original builder might have decided to call it a lotus when he registered it.

The reg ties in with the year of registration, as said you can call the car almost anything when you register it. I wouldn't be concerned, especially at that price

That was what I meant.

I would be compelled to take the paperwork round to the DVLA office and beg them to change it to Caterham... calling it a Lotus is a bit, well, sad really!!!
