airbag light and mot
Hopefully someone may be able to help. My tin top (alfa 156) is due for an mot on wednesday but the airbag light no longer lights up for a few seconds
before going out. I assume this is to show the system works? Will this be a fail? Will they notice?

As far as i am lead to belive, an airbag light is not a MOT failure

Not an MOT item. The ABS light is but not the airbag.

I've been told it is an MOT fail, however if it doesn't come on maybe the monkey might not notice...

Not a fail item, but they may well just give you a advisory about it.

ni mate the airbag light is nothing to do with an mot test. worst case is the tester would give you an advisory notice

My dad used to take bulbs out of his warning lights all the time and passed MOTs no problem but he hasn't do that for at least ten years.
I don't mean to hijack and this is purely just out of curiosity but if you removed something from your car that is tested for an MOT if you have
it, would you need proof? I was thinking stuff like swapping power stearing out or something like that.

Not an MOT fail but it should be noted as an advisory.
Be careful with MOT advisories the rumour in the trade is sooner or later some insurance companies are going to use them as a reason for not paying
out unless you have evidence they have been attended too.
VOSA dosen't really exert any controls on advisories --- Bad news if you take a car to a well known fast fit outfit who tend to add every
advisory notice they can but only on the type of repairs they do.

No, I don't think it is an MOT issue.
In some cases, it can be fixed by unplugging and then re-plugging the the connections for the seatbelt tensioners / airbags under the seat - this
worked on my Rover 75, I'd guess that your car is similar.
You should disconnect the battery for 10 mins before doing this.

Actually I fixed mine last time (staying on) by switching the ignition on and off about 90 times
