They'll certainly be better than the factory fit items.
While you're changing them it would be worth fitting some sound deadening behind them, particularly if they're mounted in the doors. Also
consider what's driving them - good speakers won't improve a poor source.
(Hope I'm not egg sucking teaching here BTW)

Well I'm not really wanting to alter the standard appearance of the car or spend a fortune on ICE - probably getting the best out of the
standard head unit will be sufficient .
They will replace the standard speakers in the doors. What sort of sound deadening material is used for this sort of thing?
I wish some one would tell me how to suck an egg - I've never done it before

Standard head units are pants.. thats the first ting to upgrade IMO..
Anyway, some dynomat stuck on the door skin behind a component set of speakers will help make it sound better.
Go the whole hog and get a sub in the boot... go nick the one out of James 106!
Upgrading the sounds is never ending, every thing is always better than what you've got

+1 on upgrading the head unit, aim for something like 45wx4 and you'll be well away
If disfunction is a function, then I must be some kind of genius.

From dim and distant days of messing about with ICE, better head unit is good starting point. Then try some sound deadening behind factory speakers.
The head unit amp is often cause of bad sound (distortion etc). After that resonance from the panels. Having the ipod connection will probs make the
sound seem better to her as she will have loads of new tunes to listen too. Might take pressure off messing on with speakers for a while until a car
with better sounds can be found.
Why not simply insure her on your car and you drive the KA..........................................................
