2.9 XR4x4 problem

Got a bit of a problem with my XR4x4, think it's ignition but not sure. It doesn't seem to want to rev past around 4000rpm, but that is according to the rev counter. Pulls like a train upto around that figure then really struggles. Wondering if it was something like an ignition amplifier. Car is in superb order with only 60k on the clock. scratching my head a bit as I can't really afford to buy several parts at the moment so was hoping someone on here may know of some checks that I could do to eliminate certain other things, dodgy rotor arm or cap etc. Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same thing, turned out to be the tiny corpse of a sparrow blocking the air inlet

ISTR these have a flap type airflow meter like the Xr3i---- pivot could be sticking.

Also possible fuel flow rate problem ---- blocked filter ?

Other than that basic servicing.

It's got 2 AFM's, the 2.8 had 1, but will look and clean, again something I didn't think of.
