Tin top wheel woes
My Mazda6 passenger side rear wheel is making a god awful screech. The wheel turns freely by hand so I assume it needs new brake pads. However I
can't get the wheel off! Got all the nuts off but the wheel won't budge, it's as if it is welded to the hub. I tried hitting the
rim with a mallet (block of wood in between) to shock it but still no luck. Is it just a case of hitting it harder or are there any nifty tricks?
The wheel was off recently as it had new tyres about 6 weeks ago.

I had a front brake pad shatter on my car an one of te peices got wedged between what was left of the pad and the disk. That made a screeching
sound.
As for the wheel, i would imagine when they replaced the wheels, they didn't use any copper slip. I find when wheels are stuck on, the only way
to remove them is to hit the back of the wheel as you have been doing but turning it in between hits so you are hitting it on opposite sides. You do
sometimes have to hit it pretty hard to get it moving.
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Put the nuts back on. Do not tighten them a lot. Move the car slowly for 50cm.
That should do it

As above but slacken the nuts 1 to 2 full turns you have move about 1 to 2 metres and apply the brakes sharply then repeat in reverse.
Don't use Coppaslip on alloy wheels it makes matters worse, you can buy special anti-seize compounds for alloy wheels which is aluminium based,
most common source is to buy from Landrover specialist or off ebay.

Yeah copper slipped alloy wheels can be the devils work to get off - seems to accelerate the corrosion somehow!
