eBay item not as described, opinions please
I bought this on ebay - JAGUAR E-TYPE S1,S2 ORIGIONAL AIR FILTER BOX GOOD on eBay (end time 19-Dec-10 11:09:40 GMT)
This is the other side when it turned up:
A crude repair of a captive nut, and loads of dents.
Do you think I'm justified in going for a 'not as described' or
should I accept its 40odd years old and its reasonable wear?
I really dont think it is GOOD
What are your opinions??
Cheers.
Pete

Him indoors is one of the UK's top E-Type (and Jag) restorers...and he has just had a look and said it is caRp......sorry....
Not sure of your finances or what that cost you off Flea-Bay...but have you had a look at Martin Robeys site....
You can get a (proper) new one ...... So I (so would 'im indoors ) would be inclined to go for a 'not as described'......

Does/will it work? If so then I would consider is it still fit for purpose, then if it is then good condition would be a fair discription considering
its age, if it had been excellent or mint then I would not expect that.
I have always found when it comes to describing used items, that good is a reflection that the item works, but shows signs of its age. Ie a good 1
year old car/part should be pretty much perfect, a good 20yr old car/part will have issues, but should work.

I'm a layman (especially compared to Fozzies old man) and it looks like a 'usable' description would have been far nearer the mark!

But if something is 40 years old and is useable/works, thats pretty good! lol

I've assisted my Dad in ground up restoration of 4 E-Types over the past 20 years and would not accept that as GOOD condition. I would have
advertised that as FAIR condition with photos illustrating what you show. Also, it doesn't look the right colour or finish to me - IIRC it
should more silvery and a slightly hammered finish - that looks like it's primered to me.

It's a fine line with this one - If it wasn't for a show car, I'd accept that as a good working part. Otherwise I wouldn't
have bought it if I wanted a mint part (as it's clearly primered and not painted in the auction).
However, as with all ebay problems, if you're unhappy, email the seller. Judging by his feedback rating, it may be a good resolution.

I have stripped a number of vintage vehicles & would never describe an item such as this " Good condition "
No mention made of repaired dammage, dents nor the fact that it has obviosly been rusty at some point & given a quick spray to cover it up.
I personally would go for a refund on that one !!??

Thanks all I think the concensus is its not good I'll drop him a line.
My E isn't perfect, but I really don't want to add to the imperfections by fitting something that looks like its been played kick the can
with.
I've spent a fortune at Martin Robeys this winter Fozzie, two back wings and a boot floor assy, and those little bits that all add up, I think
they are £140 + VAT on these, Er indoors is mentally totting this lot up, so was hiding some costs

Start with a polite question to the seller that you think it's condtion less than described.
I've had one buyer not happy with a grey area in a desription. small refund sorted it.
A fair agreement is often easy to achive.

I agree with rf900rush, if you can tolerate it then ask him whether he was aware of the faults and what he would like to do about it.
If you can't live with it at any price, then get a refund.

R1_Pete, that's the trouble with the old Jags.....parts do cost....and some....
SNG Barratt and SC Parts are also E-Type parts stockists but......price....
However, as said (and by others) it (fleabay item) isn't 'good' condition, and the 'offending' side wasn't
shown.
Hence my (and 'is) comment......IMHO if the guy had said previous battle wounds/repairs, but still works fine, then
fair do's .... but in 'good' condition..... no.....
Bonzo ..... he has said that he cannot recall the name ....

From a legal standpoint, he hasn't described it as 'good condition' - just 'GOOD'. But it is still a bit misleading to
say the least. As others have said, don't let it lie, contact him and ask his views.

I'd agree calling it good is stretching it a little. Sure the side he photographed looks good - just a shame about the other side with the dodgy
repair and dents!
