Puma Bonnet replacement/ repaint

Guys, son's Red Puma has the lacquer on the bonnet peeling in two or three places and about the size of a ten pound note each one.
Think it was due to bird lime which previous owner left on there.
Question:- a) rub it down and rattle can it (suppose we could matt black it or is that naff?) or b) find a correct colour replacement and fit complete.
What price a scrappie bonnet or WHY?
Any suggestions gratefully received.
Cheers, Pewe

Thanks, JimmyD v v. Take the point about the re-spray. Always cautious where bird-lime's involved - you don't know how far it's eaten in. Matt Black here we come. P.

IMO the bonnet has been paint previously, I've never seen factory lacquer lift. If you go the rattle can route don't try to colour match I doubt that you ever could, your matt black sounds more like it. You may find a bonnet the correct colour but if I'm correct in thinking it was painted before the tops of the wings may have been blown in so don't be surprised if another bonnet doesn't match them exactly.
