Thanks for the heads up. Shame my wife is hogging the TV watching Dancing on Ice AND recording it AND recording another channel on the Sky box so no chance of seeing it unless it's on iPlayer. Greedy cow

It's an excellent programme. Chapman really pushed the boundries, but with that came the sad loss of several lives

Chapman was a genius, his problem was his ideas were so radical, so far in advance of everyone else that sometimes the technology wasn't really there to build those cars but he tried anyway. But look at the 49, the 72 and the 79, unbeatable. I think the program (the 'Killer Years' one) was a bit over critical of him, racing cars break, his maybe a bit more often but he didn't put the trees around Hockenheim, he didn't tell Rindt not to fasten his crotch stap, that was Rindt's decision and apparently he didn't like them, he almost certainly would have survived if he had.

Great (if sobering) program though and a great sound track and weren't racing cars beautiful back them.

caught the last 20 mins,very good.

normal sunday eve here to with mrs bob watching brain dead TV while recording two more even more brain numbing programmes

I'll have a look on i-player tomorow.

Anyway, yes chapman genious. you guys should look out for the book "The man and his cars" ISBN 0-85059-733-1
really is a book worth reading,

David Purley was the saddest part. When he is stood next to Williamson's burning car trying to turn it over or put the fire out and no one is helping and the rest of the field still racing past. He got a George Medal for his bravery but it haunted him for the rest of his life.....He later died while piloting his Aerobic plane off the south coast, the place crashed into the sea while going straight down under full power. The rumour was that it was suicide although there was no evidence

His Father owned LEC refrigeration and the F1 team was run from the LEC plant and they actually built a F1 car.....amazing story in itself. Like I said, very sad.

First doc was carp imho - nowt but wide angle shots of Bahrain and drivers at parties. Thought it might be just a little bit about the cars

Killer years doc was excellent though. I knew it was dangerous back then, but wow - can't believe what Jackie and the GPDA had to go through to improve safety - the tracks' refusal to do anything, media essentially calling them chickens and the drivers buying their own mobile hospital. Unbelievable!

Toasted Bandini didnt look too good, and "the volunteer ambulance crew took Graham Hill (with 2 broken legs) to a hospital that was closed"
