Buying Tintop suspect seller or not

Nice Audi A4 to replace my old one.

Good price right spec and ok condition.

Reason for sale: have two dogs, wife has a 206, wanted another estate car (they have a mondeo estate). Guys get his dealer mate to source one, he finds this audi. Wife doesn't like it to big (what they need is a focus estate or something similar) so its up for sale.

V5 isn't in his name he's only had it a week or two, assume his dealer mate filled in the sold to dealer part of the V5 as is was missing from the logbook. So in summary potentially buying a car from someone who isn't the registered owner. Not sure if its dodgey or just a lack of awareness from the seller.

He didn't know how to get the bonnet open, ends up the cable was a bit stiff it needed a bonnet wiggle while pulling the handle, eveything seemed ok not sure it it was a little down on power.

So dodgey or not, if he was actually a dealer on the side surely he'd know how to open the bonnet. Not sure I have the full story for the reason for sale, I'm sure i saw his eye twitching when he was telling me, lol

Call me cynical but I would be very suspicious that it's suffered crash damage/been written off, then been repaired
by his dealer mate and the vendor is selling it on for him.
If his missus doesn't like it why isn't the dealer mate taking it back and finding him another one?
Doesn't know where to open the bonnet?
I suggest even those not remotely interested in cars would probably have opened the bonnet to check
there's an engine there.
Be very careful.....
HTH.
Cheers, Pewe

If in doubt walk away it's that simple IMHO. A bargain? too good to be true? only had it 2 weeks??

Yes there are bargains to be had but from your own thoughts you already doubt this is one.

I used to say stuff like that when I (many many years ago) used to buy cars at auctions, polish them up and sell them for a profit in the paper. It is door step trading and the guy is probably not fulfilling his Legal obligations for a trader.

He legally has to provide a guarantee if he is a trader.

Or it could be stolen....

It wasn't a bargain about right. He had the v5 but not in his name, had the service history etc.

If in doubt walk.

Is it really such a bargain? If he's selling it after just two weeks then he's either making a loss or cheap A4s are easy to find.
