Car tax & insurance Q?

Excuse my stupidity here but I've had company cars for the last 20 years and my kit is relatively simple to look after in this respect...
My daughter is trading in her car tomorrow. The car she is getting is currently un-taxed and we have to sort out the tax disc. The dealer has given us the V5 and the current MOT and I've filled in a V10 form. Insurance is all sorted for swapping over at 2pm tomorrow and I have a cover note to this effect. However, reading the notes of the V10, you have to have a current certificate insurance or cover note and the cover note does not come into effect until 2pm tomorrow. Does this mean that I will have to wait until after 2pm tomorrow to get the tax disc or if I smile sweetly at the dear in the local Post Office will she let me get it today?
Thanks in advance

I suspect you should have to wait until tomorrow, BUT having seen the way the PO employess look at stuff, I doubt they will notice if you went today. Is it a pain to get it tomorrow?

It'd be a bit of a pain. The dealers is 30 miles away and after 2pm the car she's trading in won't be insured and after 2pm the one she's getting won't be taxed and I don't know where the nearest PO is to the dealer

Can't you get the dealer to go to the post office with you with his trade insurance. Thats what i did the other day when i got my new car.

As said i'd lean on the dealer to tax it for you.that said i've never had a problem getting tax early, but then i live in a little village, and the postoffice know me!

i agree ask the dealer to sort the tax for you. they have trade ins so its easy for them.

also you can buy tax for the future so in theory it should be ok to say insurance starts when the road tax starts.

good luck.

Thanks

It's a massive dealer that operates a bit like a car supermarket. They won't tax the cars - simple as that!
There is a nice maserati there so I could always book a test drive in that for 2pm tomorrow and ask them where the post office is.
Oh, and she has this i-kube insurance which has a gps tracker fitted in the car. They will swap the insurance over no problem but it could be another 2 weeks before they remove the tracker despite having it pointed out early last week that the car is being traded in this week. The tax is the easy part in all this!! I've never known swapping a car to be so bloody awkward!
