A frames

Just tried out my shiney new towing "A" frame, total disaster, off I went and as I turned the corner it slid across removing my front number plate and scratching the nose cone, opened up the angle and attached to the outer parts of the wishbone on the wheel side of the damper and it will not steer, just drags the car across corners. Finally I turned the connecting rods up the other way and suceeded in bending a steering arm. How the hell do they work, are they supposed to be free to move across the wishbone, if so it makesa hell of a mess of the powder coat. Help please or does anybody want to buy it.?

You fasten them to the lower arms tightly with the steering lock of, they do make a mess of powder coating, a trailer is much better.

Thanks Marc, I know where you fasten them but are they supposed to move up and down the wishbone?

They need to be so tight on the bones that they can't slide side to side or positioned in such a way that they have nowhere to slide, ie up against the inner pivots. They will damage powder coat and paint. Make sure the front tyres are hard and the steering lock is off!

I would say they are unsuited to seven type cars, you would be better with an ambulance type of towing trailer.
Seen one used for towing a tin top car and was up and down the pavement out of control. Dont know why they make them really.

I used to use one of these many years ago. It was always attached to the chassis or subframe, never to the suspension arms.

It needs good castor on the front suspension to work as that is what 'steers' the towed vehicle. I suspect it is not really suited to a seven type as it needs a rigid fitting and a moving suspension component cannot provide that. Also wide low profile tyres never castor very well.

Use mine often on many different cars and always on the wishbones.
Never, ever had a failure.
