Chargecooler pumps - mechanical...
In a bit of sideways thinking, while baulking at £100 costs for decent high flow 12v pumps, I stopped to think that maybe a bike engine water pump
might be usable. I have scrapped the air con so I have room for a little pump, could even modify the air con pump body to contain the water pump.
Thoughts? Concerned about power use at high revs and what the approx operating rpm are when they're in standard fitment, plus the lack of info
on flow rates.
Been looking at aux pumps but the one I have from a volvo is absolutely pathetic (3l/min) and not even close to powerful enough for me - I'd be
looking at at least 15l/min for an electric (or max flow rate for a mech).
I'd value your opinions

This one will do the job, you might have to wait a couple of weeks as its from the states, but only around £56.

Cheer for the replies folks!
The one from the US is OK until they drop import duty and handling fees onto it and it'll be ~75 quid (though nicely capable), the omega one
doesn't appear to be overly capable - any idea of the flow of it? I've seen reports of 5-8l/min which is a bit poor?

Is there a common name for these? Part of my problem I think is terminology, coolant pump brings up totally different contents to water pumps, then
heater pumps gets a whole new subsection
The reason I was considering the mech ones is they come in around £10, but I suppose making up the brackets etc will take enough time and materials to
be an added cost.

In my experience on low value items they tend to waver the import duty, I think its anything under £135 , lve bought loads of low value items from the
states and other non EU countries, and have not been charge duty or vat yet, the only items I have been charged duty on were a ZX10R engine, and a
ZX10R turbo kit, but they were $1500 and $3995.

Hmm ok, I got stung for a bike part that was about 50 quid once before, royal fail charged me 13.50 handling fee alone which was pretty brutal when
you have no choice in the matter! Also puts one of those pumps to about the same cost as buying one in the UK.
Anyone know the diams on the vectra pump outlets? I'm looking for 19mm if poss, but that might be asking for the moon on a stick

What about a caravan type electric water pump. Have a look at towsure etc for whale pumps. If it can run a shower maybe it would do?

Interesting option, only concern there would be the duty cycle capabilities but I'll investigate!

Search for a Webasto fuel burning heater water pump.Fitted to diesel Rover 75s, free landers BMWs etc .
Outlets are either 16 or 19mm as they fit into the heater circuit.

Tracked down the part you mean, it appears to be a massive integrated heater and pump system, coming in around 150quid second hand, on average?

Yes thats the complete unit but there is a removable circulating pump that fits in the palm of your hand.I also put 12v electric pump into an E bay
search and it bought up some Focus RS charge cooler pumps for £89 .

Found a brushless DC pump on fleabay (http://tinyurl.com/3w8mu25) and spoke to a few previous buyers about them, seem to be up to their specs, nearly
30 litres a min unloaded, but no-one could give me a loaded rating and I've no idea of the pressure drop in my system, so we'll see how
well it performs! Not bad for 32 quid by all accounts.
