Maserati Indy - advice please
In exchange for my Locost, I've been offered a rusty old Maserati Indy 4200 in need of much TLC. It hasn't been used for a long time. It
was the owner's late dad's car. Allegedly, apart from the rust mainly in door bottoms and sills, the engine and transmission is good
(well supported by the multiple photos the owner sent me plus videos of engine starting and running).
There's a small selection of photos in my archive
Following my heart - I'm a bit tempted and I'm going to to France to have a look at it next weekend.
My head is screaming alarm bells and financial disaster.
What do we think? Good/Bad idea?
Any wise advice?

That could reduce a 50k bank balance to overdraft in a month!
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

Unless you can remake the metal work yourself I would run away

Sound like Question aimed fairly and squarely at TrevD. But only hypothetically in ball park figures not as any kind of definite quote. If anyone
should know ball parfigures it could be TrevD.

An old guy I know repaired and resprayed a similar car some time back. He had a lot of metalwork to replace. You need to do your sums first to see
what it may be worth when finished. But what a car when its done.

This one is up for £16,950.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Does it move under its own power without making worrying noises?
Do you have enough spare time to do all the work yourself?
Can you afford to buy rare and expensive parts that you can't make yourself?
It is a nice looking car and would be awesome when complete. If you can answer yes to all the above and are fully aware of the size of the project
you're taking on, do it. But make sure first.

Disappointed.
Thought you'd decided on a more interesting project, combining this:
Engine Maserati Quattroporte 4.2 V8 Great condition | eBay UK
and one of these:-
Might be cheaper!

Yes, I was just trying took for the one in Pete's post when I found those..
I hope it's not the definitive answer, but it doesn't look very promising financially does it?

So there's still scope for exploration perhaps?

Incidentally my correspondent has offered me the choice of either his Maserati Indy or his Fulvia Zagato, both need restoration.
He also sent photos of two sevens and a Lotus Elan. I looked up his address on google maps and it looks amazing.
I will go on Sunday I think to see for myself. At the start of June he leaves the country house to live on the boat..
I blame our school careers advisor

If his boat is anything like his cars, he'll be taking a wetsuit, so maybe your career advisor didn't do a bad job.....

Some 20 plus years ago, i sold a 3.8 flat floor e-type
It is still not even close to being on the road, and when i last saw the car 3 ish years ago, it had cost in excess of 20k
on top of the 6.5k i sold it for
A very deep money pit !!

If you do decide to go down that route, i have one of those under my bench, with half the mileage and all the ancilliaries including the dry sump
tank, headers & ecu.....for less than half the money they want.

Now there's a coincidence - I have just been offered a Maserati Indy 4200 by a guy in France as well, in response to my Pistonheads ad. He must
be desperate to get shot of it!
