Under-Dash Cover?

I've been advised that Locost - style cars must have some from of cover, to separate the passenger compartment from the space beneath/behind the dash panel.

Is this correct? If so, what material should I use? Was thinking thin MDF, covered with any leftover trim material might meet the need. Comments please.

I just used vinyl backed carpet held in place with automotive trim clips, passed SVA in 2005

Recently went through my IVA with nothing to seal off the area above the passengers feet/behind dash. As long as all the wiring is secured and tidy and any bolt heads/sharp edges covered I cant see a problemb.

Cheers,sean

Thanks for the comments. I'll have to get down and intimate with this under-dash area, and check for potential sharp bits.
