MS1 v3 build help needed

I need some help/info from the megasquirt gurus, regards my
ms build please.

I am getting on quite nicely with the assembly,i am finding it quite enjoyable tbh,
until i have come to step 50 on page 12.

The build manual states that i need to make a decision between the two tach signal inputs,
Hall/optical or vr.
It then goes on to say that i should install both and select between them with jumpers.
The manual then states that as i am using edis,i should install the Hall/optical circuit.
I presume it will be step 50a,as i will not be using points.

Is there any point in installing the vr circuit if i only want the Hall circuit?
Or should i follow the manual to the letter and do both, then fit the jumpers.

The more i read over the instructions the more confused i seem to get

Help please before i tear up the manual.

Andy

Are you following the megamanual or msextra manual here

As I read it, and like you the more I read the more confused I got, but as I understand it you go hall, then remove C30, substitute R12 with a 1K, then there is a resistor and connection from D14 -ve to get your SAW signal on pin 36

I pulled the internal mods into a word doc if you want a copy?

Pete,

I am following the megamanual,it says to leave c30 empty and do not jumper it.
then if i have a hall/optical sensor do not install d1 but put a jumper in its place
then do not install d2,again jumper this.

My head is starting to turn to mush

Are you using megamanual or extra?
If you are using megamanual, then i would love a copy please.

I just popped you a u2u Andy

I'm planning on using the msextra mods, and msextra code.

The megamanual did my head in too, and I couldn't find where it configured a saw output signal. Its not easy to find in the msextra manual, thats why I pulled it into a word doc.

Cheers.

Pete

use the msextra build manual its much easier to understand.

you think you have got it hard.... i built my megasquirt 3 before the manual even existed. i had to soldier through with the ms2 manual and scraps of upgrade info from the ms extra forum pages.

the problem you are having is that the v3 board come out after the first ms1 manuals were written and although they did go back and make changes to the manuals the info has always been a bit fragmented. you can get away with referring to to the ms2 extra manuals for most of the build but just make sure you get all the jumper wires correct for using the ms1 chip.

The megamanual isnt the best place to look to be honest. That was written before James and I re-wrote the code (MS-Extra) so it wasnt really much use to extra code users, which is 99% of MS users.

I wrote this page for builders to use : http://www.msextra.com/doc/ms2extra/build_manual.htm

But you must not install C30 unless you intend to trigger the MS from a coil -ve and you wont be doing that on a Zetec,

cheers
Phil
