hesitant tin top
Help please.
I need a bit of advice with my tiptop. I have a Yaris which normally run ok but lately it’s starting to have a problem. It happens when I start to
move off from a stop at lights or junction etc, it hesitates and does not seem to want to go for about 3-4 seconds and then it picks up and the drives
normally thereafter till the next stop. A local garage recommended changing one or more of the ignition coils @ £100 apiece but I’m a bit suspicious
of this, anyone had experience with or got some thoughts on this.

I'd be taking a look at the maf sensor then then the lambda sensor 2nd, on some cars you can disconnect the maf and it'll run a little
richer but could give you a clue? May put a code onto the ecu so maybe check first!!

Coils wouldn't be my first suspect unless it is a known fault with this model. Coil & plug misfires tend to show up as misfires under
any hard acceleration.
I would do an obd scan and apart from logged and pending faults look at the live output from the throttle position sensor, coolant
temperature sensor and MAP sensor, if the car has a MAF look at the output from that.,

I thought the yaris had coil on plugs so you may get lucky and see a coil tracking if you have a look in the dark??

After a bit of scratching around I found there appears to be a few occurrences of similar problems on Yaris models which are diagnosed as VVT problems
related to the Oil Control valve (OCV) gumming up.
